2013 Greenwich Kennel Club All-Breed Dog Show

Cornell University Veterinary Specialists at the 2013 Greenwich Kennel Club All-Breed Dog Show

On Saturday, June 8th 2013 the Greenwich Kennel Club held its 81st AKC All-Breed Dog Show Obedience & Rally Trials.  Over 1,200 dogs participated. Cornell University Veterinary Specialists was in attendance as an exhibitor amongst the festivities. Here are some things we learned about this amazing event...
The Greenwich Kennel Club
The Greenwich Kennel Club is one of the oldest all-breed dog clubs in the Tri-State Area. The Greenwich Kennel Club is an affiliate of the American Kennel Club (AKC) and is dedicated to the advancement of purebred dogs.   Proceeds from the club’s show help support various animal health and welfare groups. The GKC has held annual shows continuously since 1930, with the exception of 1943-1945 due to World War II.

The Trophies
Best in Show perpetual trophies are maintained to this day. These three trophies were donated in the names of key Club members. They were the Daniel J. Leary gold tone cup, the estate of Mrs. H. Terrell Van Ingen offers the Phyllis W. Quirk Memorial Trophy, and the estate of Mrs. Nathan R. Allen offers the Kay Duncan Memorial Bowl, the latter two are sterling silver.

The Disaster And Wilderness Ground Search (DAWGS) group provides to police, fire, or DEP agencies - at no cost - professional k-9 search and rescue services 24x7x365 to assist in, or manage, a search for a lost or missing person.  Agatha (see picture), a past patient of CUVS, is one of the groups' more recent search and rescue dogs.

While there were some clear winners, all of the breeds shown were beautiful and talented. We had a great time watching them strut their stuff. We were so pleased to have been a part of such a long-standing, prestigious tradition.
